This study investigates issues concerning the teaching of philosophy in non-philosophy departments of Greek universities from the point of view of the lecturers. The aim of this research was to outline the image that this particular category of lecturers has of the philosophy course and to trace the degree of influence of their training on their awareness of the importance of the interaction of the members of the teaching field.
Based on the material collected from interviews, the views of teachers on the subject of philosophy, its content, its place in the curriculum of their departments, as well as its teaching objectives and teaching methods were systematically recorded and commented upon. Ways of assessing students’ understanding and identifying their level of response to the teaching of this subject were explored. The analysis of these parameters allowed, as far as possible, the categorization of the teachers who participated in the research and the construction of their
profile.
